Hilton Head Activities

Fun Activities

Even after you’ve lounged on Hilton Head Island’s beaches to your heart’s content, played a few of the championship courses and shopped the breezy boutiques, there’s still plenty to do.

The Island’s marinas hold a wealth of activities. Stop by the Shelter Cove Marina, Broad Creek Marina, Harbour Town Yacht Basin, South Beach Marina or Palmetto Bay Marina to hook Spanish mackerel while deep-sea fishing or spot dolphins on a nature cruise through inshore waterways, or paddle a kayak around quiet sea trails. If you prefer dry ground, ride horseback through 600 acres of Sea Pines Preserve. Or rent bikes, taking advantage of to-your-door delivery service.

• Hiking & Biking

Hike, bike and wander designated paths on the Island bordered by plants, wild animals and marshlands. The Town of Hilton Head Island offers over 50 miles of public pathways. Each trail leads to a point of interest on the Island. Explore trails from sunrise to sunset. Or, cross the bridge to the Main Trail on Pinckney Island.

The 3.5 mile trail is completely bordered by water and watched over by dolphins and alligators. Birds and foliage spill onto the trail in some places making the experience even more spectacular. All trails are suitable for walking or careful biking.

The hard-packed beaches are also popular for bicycling at low tide. Bicycle rentals are available island-wide throughout the year.

• Canoeing & Kayaking

One of the best ways to explore the natural beauty of Hilton Head Island is by renting a canoe or kayak and traveling along the coastal regions at your own pace. Wind past creeks, lagoons and rivers as you glimpse the Low Country's unforgettable scenery. Sunset cruises, sailboat rentals and guided nature kayaking excursions are just some of the many ways to explore the waters surrounding Hilton Head Island. The Atlantic Ocean offers a spectacular vantage point from which to appreciate the magnificence of this unique barrier island.

• Yachting

Spend a day on a chartered yacht, soaking up the sun in the company of your friends and family. Take a cruise around the Island and enjoy the changing scene of the coastline, from impressive waterfront homes to incredible nature preserves.

A catered dinner simplifies the experience while you watch the fireworks from the water or host your special events aboard any one of the chartered yachts available.

Festivals and events also bring much excitement to Hilton Head Island.

WineFest, held yearly in March, is the largest outdoor wine tasting on the East Coast. Enjoy excellent cooking every September at FoodFest, every March at WingFest, every October at the Chili Cookoff and Celebrate Hardeeville, and every November at the Soup Challenge, which raises money for Volunteers in Medicine. Arts are on display at Old Town Bluffton’s Arts & Seafood Festival in October, and seasonal Art Walks. And finally, celebrate vintage and classic cars at the Concours d’Elegance.

Hilton Head holds much in store for a wonderful vacation, whether you choose to relax by the sea or truly tour the area.
